Giuseppe Verdi’s masterpiece endures as one of the most popular operas in the world today. A riveting storyline, filled with jealousy, kidnapping, murder and revenge, combined with fiery and emotional music, including the famous Anvil Chorus, make this screening a thrilling must-see. The production, which was recorded at Berlin’s Staatsoper Unter den Linden, features four of the most celebrated opera singers in the world. Anna Netrebko and Plácido Domingo with Marina Prudenskaya and Gaston Rivera, lead the impressive ensemble, directed by Daniel Barenboim.
Anna Netrebko, “in devastating form” (The Times), draws a compelling and immediate portrait of Leonora from beginning to end. Plácido Domingo, stars for the first time as Conte di Luna, with “his magical stage presence [that] ennobles every evening of opera” (Die Welt). Daniel Barenboim’s conducting of this work is “positively sensational” (Berliner Zeitung).
